US News & World Report Ranks DSM USA as #4 Best Place to Live

DSM USA Best Place to Live

April 10, 2018

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (April 10, 2018) — Greater Des Moines (DSM) is the #4 Best Place to Live in the nation according to a ranking released today by U.S. News & World Report. The report analyzed 125 metro areas in the U.S. to find the best places to live based on quality of life, the job market, cost of living and people’s desire to live there. The ranking was determined in part by a public survey of thousands of individuals across the U.S., as well as data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

DSM placed highly in the publication’s “Value Index,” which measures how comfortably the average resident of each metro area can afford to live within his or her means. DSM’s placement was also due to its ability to attract new residents, its strong job market and its quality of life amenities. The report also highlights that DSM’s cost of doing business is 15 percent lower than the national average, and that the region is a hub for the insurance industry.

“Des Moines is a great place to live and raise a family,” the article says. “And there’s plenty to do and see in Des Moines. Cultural events and festivals draw all ages to the Downtown area. … Newcomers, take note: The people of Des Moines are some of the nicest you’ll ever meet.”

“This ranking helps tell our region’s story: DSM USA is a welcoming, vibrant, accessible and affordable place to live,” said Jay Byers, Greater Des Moines Partnership CEO. “The region offers cost of living advantages, jobs, a high quality of life and the opportunity to make meaningful business and personal connections.”

DSM residents are encouraged to share the what they love about the region by posting to the #DSMUSA Facebook Group.
